Questions climbers ask
Will I have to give up my favourite foods?
No. Base Camp works on one swap per week, you choose one red-marked food and replace it with something green that scratches the same itch. Everything you have not chosen yet stays exactly as it is. That is why it sticks.
Is this a keto program?
No. Base Camp is about real, whole food, getting the ultra-processed products out and real cooking back in. If you later want the ketogenic climb, The Lookout is there; many climbers are happy and healthy without it.
Will I count calories or weigh food?
Never. In a landmark NIH study, people ate about 500 extra calories a day on ultra-processed food without meaning to, the food was the problem, not their willpower. We fix the food, and appetite largely fixes itself.
What happens when I slip?
You file a two-minute Trail Conditions Report, what was happening before the slip (stressed? tired? it was just there?), and we use it as intel. No penalties exist anywhere in this program. A slip is not a fall.
How much time does it take each week?
One 45-minute call, a few minutes a day of food tracking, and a weekly 15-minute Campfire journal. The cooking you were going to do anyway, we just make it easier.
What is the elevation game about?
Every tracked day, swap made and journal kept earns metres on a 1,000-metre climb from the Trailhead to the Lookout, with badges at the milestones. It sounds playful, and it is, but it is built on solid habit science.
What happens after the eight weeks?
You graduate with a one-page maintenance plan, and choose freely: climb on to The Lookout or consolidate on your own. No pressure, the mountain does not expire.
Before you enrol, a word about medications
Changing how you eat can interact with some medications and health conditions, including insulin, sulfonylureas such as gliclazide or glyburide, SGLT2 inhibitors such as Jardiance or Forxiga, and conditions including type 1 diabetes, kidney or liver disease, pregnancy and breastfeeding, and a history of disordered eating.
I am a coach, not a medical professional, and I do not provide medical or medication screening or clearance. If any of that applies to you, please speak with your doctor or pharmacist before enrolling. Only your prescriber should ever adjust your medication. Coaching supports the changes you and your healthcare team decide are right for you.
